Guest guest
Dear Bob, Absolutely I do not discount the incredible influence that placebo can have on producing endorphins and healing.  The implicit idea underlying this and other such inquiries I have made, though, is something different. I believe that basic human nature is to be optimistic and trusting--that is until we get burned.  The old joke goes: " what is a conservative? A liberal who's been mugged! "  It is this implicit innocence and hopefulness that we all have that drives our adrenaline forward when we hear of something exotic and unknown. And I'll tell you,  I think that being hopeful and optimistic has a powerful influence on well-being and longevity. Yet, we need balance. We need to view that which is new and unknown with a reserve and a maturity, before we decide to commit ourselves. This, I believe is the key: One should throughout one's life maintain the curiosity, the innocence,  the fire and passion of one's youth, and as one matures integrate with that the wisdom, thoughtfulness and caution that comes with experience. There is a great line in the perennial off-Broadway show, " The Fantasticks: "   " ...Please don't let me ever get old! "  (And yet this is quite different from Peter Pan's manifesto:  " I won't grow up! " --Growing up is not growing old!) Forever young,   ________________________________ " Bob Linde, AP, Herbalist " <boblindeherbalist Chinese Medicine Sun, February 7, 2010 7:40:04 AM Re: Re: Shungite  Its interesting how people see us sometimes. I have a long time patient with psoriatic arthritis that is very advanced. She sees me on a regular basis and takes her new medication and now she is pain free. Of her own choosing she claims my acupuncture is what is making her pain better, but the timing to me is more atuned to her meds kicking in. I'm sure that my care helps, but I am not discounting the effects of her medication. I commonly see testimonial of things that cure cancer, stop pain ect that seems to forget the change in diet, surgery, chemo, new meds ect....this is why testimonial is discounted. I know for me it is through constant quizing of my patients that I find out the real cause and effect of issues...at times this may take months. Back to the subject in the title...often I ask myself will it hurt the patient as the more important question. So long as it is not harmful product (other than the pocket book) I just leave it alone.
