Guest guest
Hey Laura Laura > I am intrigued by the idea of trying this formula, but since I am trying > to get pregnant Gui Zhi would not be a good idea. > Joe I am confused. Isn't Guizhi tang kind of standard protocol to treat pregnant women in the golden chamber clause 20-1? Guizhi Fuling Wan for treatment during pregnancy? What is the concern with guizhi during pregnancy? Caught me off guard. The presentation for Guizhi Jia Longgu Muli Tang from the golden chamber has some " interesting " symptoms...dreaming of sex, etc...but: important is that it is used to treat insomnia when the person presents properly. Definitely a deficient pulse that sort " gives way " to pressure ~ hollow other things = sweat easily, maybe at night - easily excited, easily fatigued - sensitive to drafts, cold, food, emotions - maybe sensitive to acupuncture (like you might get better results from Japanese style than heavy handed styles) It's awfully hard to tell without seeing a person's complexion, feeling the pulse, etc. From the sound of things, I think it might help, I've seen great results when it fit. Guest guest
It is good to be cautious about guizhi in pregnancy as it has the ability to stimulate contractions. It really must be paired with baishao (the sour flavor helps reduce contractions), and if there are too many contractions or a danger of loss of the fetus, the dose of baishao should be bigger than guizhi as in danggui shaoyao san. One should always be cautious about using acrid herbs unopposed by sour, and using only the herbs you need to get he job done. Guest guest
I agree. Under most circumstances, gui zhi formulas should be fine. . . Guest guest
Wow, that description sounds a whole lot like me. Very interesting! I think Gui Zhi would help conception but not be safe during pregnancy. Pregnant women usually are hot and I've done quite a lot of consulations with Cindy Micleu (a fertility expert here in Seattle) and she has said that miscarriage is usually from heat in modern times in the US. Its like, you need heat to conceive but then heat can turn around and lead to miscarriage. Also, I find that a lot of women over the age of about 35 or 40 will start to bleed too heavily/frequently when I use Gui Zhi. Sometimes modifications can balance that out, but not always, and it doesn't lead me to be comfortbale taking Gui Zhi while pregnant. Anyone else have thoughts/experiences on that? Guest guest
Laura, There is a big difference between evil heat and heat produced by herbal medicinals. There are several gui zhi formulas that are used during pregnancy. But this is all moot, you are not there yet, you'll have to see what tomorrow brings. . again, it is all according to pattern, constitution and condition. The list of contraindications is very general, given to broad strokes. On Feb 9, 2010, at 5:52 PM, heylaurag wrote: > Wow, that description sounds a whole lot like me. Very interesting!
