TIN required on subforms: not an IRS requirement

i just checked with a Mr. Wong # 2986194 in the small business division of

the irs. he said it is NOT an IRS requirement that the insur co have the

TIN number on the subform, and that giving it out poses The Same security

risk as publishing my ss# on the subform.

 

he also said that the insur co's use it to establish the provider as a

legitimate bus entity. doesn't the NPI# do that, which i have provided on

my form?

 

based on this, i still cannot see any legit reason why i would be required

by the insur co to provide a TIN on a subform, when the insur co is paying

the patient and not cutting a check to me.
