Fwd: TIN required on subforms: conclusion

Victory!

I contacted my patient's insur co (Assurant Health) and questioned the need

to require my tax ID# on the subform. I informed the rep that neither state

law in NC nor the IRS requires it, since they are not cutting a check to me,

but rather are reimbursing my patient. I explained that i had privacy and

security concerns about providing the TIN. She said they needed to verify

that i was a legit HC provider. I replied that i had provided my NPI# which

shows my licensure. She spoke with her higher up and they concluded that

they would use a generic tax ID# to process the claim, and would send it

down for payment processing.

 

YES!!

 

I think being armed with the correct info regarding the laws on the issue

made the difference. When i have run up against this before, some years

ago, the rep at blue cross refused to process the claim using a generic

number. i believe they are using the TIN to track the HC provider in their

system.

 

hope that sharing my experience will be helpful to others confronting this

situation.
