Guest guest
I have a healthy 51 male who had total knee replacement a year ago. He still has swelling at the site of the scar. He said it has gotten a little better, feels warm to the touch. It swells more after a day of standing, then achiness & stiffness(no real pain) . The medial side of knee is feeling weak even after tons of PT.Hi energy is good. Patient is having BPH sx ie nite urination, some incomlete urination, ect. tongue thin white slightly wet white, pulse wiry inch & bar weaker cubit. My dx: DH,kd Xu thinking of Si Miao Wan with addition of Wu Ji Shen. Is Curcuma wrong in this case, I know it's used for shoulder not knee but area is inflamed? Any ideas? Thanks Steve
Guest guest
This is non-TCM, but I had a similar patient with chronic (1 year) swelling post-ACL repair. She went off gluten for 3 months and her knee swelling disappeared entirely. Perhaps worth a try.... -Rebekah ------------ Rebekah Sitty, MS, L.Ac. Guest guest
Rebekah, She may have been having an allergic response made worse post-surgery. Wheat allergy is quite common. Michael W. Guest guest
Gluten sensitivity is much more common than I ever would have believed. I see more and more patients who benefit from a wheat break, if not permanent elimination, depending on their level of sensitivity. I've also been supplementing them with DPP-IV, a probiotic and l-glutamine. Seems to help in recovery. Rebekah ------------ Rebekah Sitty, MS, L.Ac.
