Guest guest
a couple weeks ago i sent out a query regarding payments for records requested by insur co when patient pays LAc directly and submits subform to insur co. in this case i was contacted by the insur co (assurant health) for a list of 8 items, some of which is redundant, as follows: 1. physician px outling frequency, duration and type of tx 2. initial eval, incl. dx & prog 3. daily tx and progress notes 4. admittng report (?) 5. tx goals 6. TP, incl duration and freq of service 7. any formal re-eval of patient 8. discharge summary, if applicable most of this is in my notes, but the info regarding prog/TP i gave orally and did not write down. i have no prob providing the info, i was wanting to know if i could bill and get paid for the admin time/report writing. most of the response i received were in regards to when atty's request records (yes you can bill, one practitioner charges $175/report). ut in this case its an insur co that i do not bill directly. one person said there is a code to bill for reports, but she couldn't remember it off hand. states vary concerning copying of records. in NC it's .25/page for the first 25 pages, and graduates from there. there is no admin time fee pd. i contacted the NC dept of insur life & health division. the rep i spoke to said in NC there are no laws governing this, and that i woudl have to contact the insur co directly and nego with them. another practitioner said she just sends what she has, and usually it will suffice. so i plan to quickly add a page discussion prog/TP and copy and send what i have and see what happens. responses to my query was requested, so this is basically the upshot. kath -- Kath Bartlett, LAc, MS, BA UCLA Oriental Medicine Experienced, Dedicated, Effective Abstain from all that is evil.
