Guest guest
There are some great gentle pediatric tui na techniques you can use on babies. There's a couple good books on the topic at www.amazon.com A good practitioner can probably show you some too. - " Fiamma Horvath " <fiammasita " alumni PCOM " <alumni; <Chinese Medicine > Thursday, March 11, 2010 7:32 AM colic > hi all- > > i have a new baby who just started with the colicky behavior---she is 3 > weeks old, so the timing is right. my son started at the same time. my > hopes were that my son had it due to antibiotics during labor (i was group > B strep positive), and that my daughter wouldn't have it (no antibiotics > this time). my son's colic improved somewhat (but definitely not > entirely) with probiotics, which i will try with my daughter (even though > antibiotics were not the culprit). does anyone have other > recommendations? is it ok to give herbs this early? i have tummy tamer > by k'an, as well as tummy qi by blue poppy. but i wonder if it's more of > a growth-related thing than digestive upset, since there wasn't a problem > up until now. i believe there is supposed to be a growth spurt at 3 > weeks. any thoughts about that? i know colic is somewhat of a mystery... > > thanks. > fiamma > > --- > > Subscribe to the free online journal for TCM at Times > http://www.chinesemedicinetimes.com > > Help build the world's largest online encyclopedia for Chinese medicine > and acupuncture, click, http://www.chinesemedicinetimes.com/wiki/CMTpedia > > > and adjust > accordingly. > > Messages are the property of the author. Guest guest
I've heard children shouldn't have honey age 3 and under. There may be spores to which they have no immunity. - " " <johnkokko <Chinese Medicine > Thursday, March 11, 2010 7:50 AM Re: colic > Just a caution... many infants have allergies to chamomile (rag weed), > sometimes to mint and should not take honey under the age of 1, for risk > of > getting botulism. > So, lose the honey for your 3 week old. Guest guest
hi all- i have a new baby who just started with the colicky behavior---she is 3 weeks old, so the timing is right. my son started at the same time. my hopes were that my son had it due to antibiotics during labor (i was group B strep positive), and that my daughter wouldn't have it (no antibiotics this time). my son's colic improved somewhat (but definitely not entirely) with probiotics, which i will try with my daughter (even though antibiotics were not the culprit). does anyone have other recommendations? is it ok to give herbs this early? i have tummy tamer by k'an, as well as tummy qi by blue poppy. but i wonder if it's more of a growth-related thing than digestive upset, since there wasn't a problem up until now. i believe there is supposed to be a growth spurt at 3 weeks. any thoughts about that? i know colic is somewhat of a mystery... thanks. fiamma
Guest guest
Our son didn't have colic, but when he got a tummy ache, a little Sheng jiang (ginger), chamomile, Bo he (mint) and Feng mi (honey) did the trick. Chamomile and Sheng jiang are so good for kids... also for teething. We didn't try this one, but a teacher of mine said that you could place and retain warm green onion sprigs in your child's navel to stop them from crying all night from colic. Maybe a warm piece of ginger would work as well.... Worth a try? Guest guest
Just a caution... many infants have allergies to chamomile (rag weed), sometimes to mint and should not take honey under the age of 1, for risk of getting botulism. So, lose the honey for your 3 week old. Ginger should be completely safe. Guest guest
Most sources and pediatricians will say 2 and under or 1 and under. It's a bacteria that can cause botulism, especially in raw honey.
