Hi, I have a new patient who told me that she stopped smoking with acupuncture.

The practitioner put in a lot of needles near lie que LU7, and hooked them up to

some kind of machine. After that, whenever the patient was near cigarettes or

smoke they were nauseous, and she never smoked again. One treatment! Has anyone

ever heard of this? Any information appreciated.

There's the addiction extra point between Lung 7 and LI 5.

Don't know about the machine though.

E-stim Chocalate Pt (between Lu 7 and Li 5) and ESM and Li4 and Lung pt in ear

for 40 minutes, plus other pts likeh Nada protocal or some use Zero Point for

total of 5 needles in  one ear and seeds on the other side. Two treatments the

first week, follow up with one a week X 2. Herbs from Pacific Biologics caled

Tobacco Off and Jitters Away (I get from Golden Needle) and Tobacco (homeopathic

from Apex Energetics) or herb for lung yin and liver stag from Seven Forrests (

I think lilly 14 and ardemesia 17)  Patient has to be extremely motivated to

quit. Herbs really help

People vary widely when it comes to smoking cessation; I have had clients

myself who had the same miraculous results, but it's not representative. I

stick to TCM in smoking cessation, I find that either Liv excess/stag or

upper jiao yin deficiency predominates, other patters are possible, of

course, and treat accordingly. The Liv stag people have the better response,

esp. if you give them heavy duty herbs.

Edith,

Hmm... I think it was this book by Ralph Alan Dale... it's been a long time.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Acupuncture-Function-Ralph-Alan-Dale/dp/1877589128/ref=s\

r_1_23?ie=UTF8 & s=books & qid=1268428141 & sr=1-23

The book is probably out of print. I remember checking it out at the ACTCM

library when we were still in the nest.

Also, I learned it from working with drug detox patients at the ACTCM

community ear clinic/ NADA class.

Anyone else know where to read up on the " addiction " / " chocolate " point?

I tried this with not much success. Though I was new and probably not doing it

right. I have had success just using Lu 9 and Li 5 along with the NADA protacol

and constitutional treatments.

It is an extra point,  also  called " Tim Mee " , (Stop Smoking) is on the Lu

channel, and is needled together  with its close neighbors,  Lu 7, and perhaps

another ah shi point in close proximity, (perhaps even Ling Gu, or LI4, if

they're tender)  utilizing the Master Tung strategy of Dao Ma.

According to Henry Lu's Chinese System of Food Cures,

to stop smoking,

- Grate a fresh radish and mix with 2 teaspoonfuls honey. Drink as juice.

- Prepare 100g fresh bean curd and 50 g black sugar; make a few holes in the

bean curds and put black sugar into the holes; steam bean curds. Whenever a

person has an urge to smoke, eat a few spoonfuls of bean curds with black sugar

inside to quit smoking. This will make the habitual smoker want to vomit on

exposure to the smell of tobacco.

- Lick a little salt with the tip of the tongue before smoking to prevent

forming a habit or to quit smoking within 1 month.

Douglas,

I've given this fresh radish juice rx to a couple of people and the only

thing that happened

was that they wanted to vomit each time...

I'm not sure it's very practical.
