Hi folks,

it looks like we need to address the situation on a number of levels

1. we should all mention in our practise that we have bene practising for a

number of years without any cause of concern due to our aseptic technique & good

habits.

2. we should look at the research papaer & pull it to bits. i am sure the

research was done in some god forsaken country with acupuncturists who do not

use disposable needles. so that issue would most likely settle that.

3. look at the data & background of people doing the research. i suspect it was

done by doctors who are generally nopt keeen on traditional acupuncture.

4. part of the problem is since we are slowly getting active & popular i have

found that every so many years someone comes along & does research on such

issues & blows it up with emdia publicity to scare people at large.

5.nobody mentions hospital infection rates, needlestick injuries by doctors

practising, etc.

nobody talks about doctors protocol re: washing hands, MRSA in hospitals & how

they are bigger culprits in the spread of bugs.

6. how within the medical fraternity they have lobbies - some who believe thatw

ashing hands is good & important & others who do not.

so lots to be done.

but we need to keep this in balance.

we also need our national bodies to be very proactive with publicity & give

interviews to media about such matters with haste.

as the saying goes good news travels slowly.

bad news trave;s very fast.

just some thpoughts.

You could also mention that shaking hands with people poses a greater risk.

is anyone being proactive in their climic to

 

address this article?

 

i want to put a short blurb on my clinic FB page

 

stating that *any* penetration of the skin

 

causes a risk of infection and that my

 

clinic takes great care with CNT, etc.

 

i also mention this to EVERY patient as part of the

 

consent form.

 

thoughts?
