Guest guest
Hi Group Any Veterinarians out there? Please advise as to treatment for this great creature Read about this injury and let me know what you would recommend. Gideon is a horse. Herbs? Digestive tolerance? I haven't seen him, I just got this note. Thanks, Joan .... the vet came out for the second ultrasound late this afternoon. Gid has a very rare injury, which Dr. feels originated when he hit the cavelletti pole months ago, and then re-tweaked in the snow/mud. As a result of the trauma, the inside forward branch of the suspensory ligament has thickened, and is about 6X larger than that on his other leg. It is still actively inflamed, and the priority is on getting that heat GONE. That branch of the suspensory is not load bearing like in the back. It’s function is to stabilize the sesmoid bones and the 2 branches of the main suspensory, so it’s not as big a deal, thank God. The injury is so rare that this vet has never come across it before. Another vet at Mid Atlantic has only seen 3 cases; 2 were like Gid, not lame, and were fine in work. The third, she said, was “broken”. Dr. also took X-Rays of the leg since it appeared in the ultrasound that there might be some calcification where the ligament attaches to the bone, but after seeing the results, he said that Gid has a very clean leg! Good news! When the vet asked what I was doing with him, I explained about the upcoming Col Carde clinic and showing him this summer with Olympic Trials in mind for next year. He suggested that I continue work with Gid, avoiding small circles and deep footing. To get the heat out, I’ll buy a bag of ice at the store every day and soak his leg in ice as often as possible daily, put on a topical anti-inflammatory, So, I am cautiously optimistic. I will NOT be showing at the first Bucks Co. Recognized Show on May 2; it was the first show on my list. Will wait and see how he is leading up to the clinic (April 23) and after the clinic to plan his first show. The footing is really good at the clinic, so that will help. I am also going to buy him some of those sports boots that support the suspensory for both turnout and working. __________ Information from ESET NOD32 Antivirus, version of virus signature database 4993 (20100401) __________ The message was checked by ESET NOD32 Antivirus. http://www.eset.com
