Hi all,

When you rx herbal formulas, do you dispense teapills as well as other forms

(ie tinctures, granules, capsules) and if so, do you feel there is a

difference in efficacy? Any discussion of teapill use/ experiences will be

helpful.

Thank you!

All teapills are fine, as long as you give the right amount of teapills for

the weight. Dosing is the secret to all herbs.

I don't give pills for patients who have major SP qi xu.

Otherwise, I dose 15 pills 2 x/ day (5:1 concentrated) for an average 150

lb person.

Most people forget the 3rd dose anyway, so dosing higher twice a day works

great for me.

200 pills = 6 days (30 x 6 = 180). I see them on the 7th (weekly).

However, for those who can do powders or raw herbs, they're definitely

better for absorption (higher surface area).

I only give pills for those people who won't do powders for some reason or

the other

(laziness, no access to hot water, strong aversion to taste)

I'd rather them do something than nothing.

That's why dosing pills higher is important. Some people go to 15 tid.

(read Bob Flaws books).

From my experience, somewhere between 24-48 pills / day (5:1 concentrated)

is useful,

otherwise, it's too small of a dose.

Some companies are not 5:1, so make sure you're at least getting that

concentration,

instead of just pressed raw powder pills.

Its better to go with the manufacturer's suggestion on teapills or

capsules for weight.

IMO, in general, 8 pills TID is for a 100 lb woman. A 150 lb woman would

need 12 pills TID, a 200 lb woman would need 16 TID.

Mayway Corp, for example, says the dosage is 8 pills TID for a 120 lb

woman. I still find that light and weak - perhaps maybe for a sensitive

patient.

Capsules would be dosed generally at 4 capsules TID for 100 lbs woman. Each

capsule is a half gram, or 500 milligrams, so an average person (a 150 lb

woman) would need 6 capsules TID, or 4.5 g of powder a day.

Many complain that the Yin Qiao tablets are too weak, but dosed correctly,

they can do the job.
