Guest guest
Hey everybody- Here goes to all of your interesting questions and comments- 1) The swollen veins, to me, indicated Xue(Blood) involvement-but her lack of pain suggested that it was not progressed.I also consider that anytime Spleen Qi has been compromised for long I should assess and treat Blood as well due to their interdependant relationship. Therefore I used a warm and moving Dang Gui with a cool and astringing Bai Shao...fairly neutral in effect and yet it would promote healing at the Xue Level. 2) Ce Bai Ye was chosen in COMBINATION with Gan Jiang. This combo is very effective to stop bleeding in the bowels from inability of the Spleen to control the Blood.(Reference:A Clinical Guide To Chinese Herbs And Formulae by Chen Song Yu and Li Fei, Churchill Livivngstone 1993)If I had surmised that Heat was causing the bleeding, I would have chosen Di Yu mixed with either Huai Hua or Ce Bai Ye.That was not the case. Many of the best herbs for stopping bleeding in the bowels are cool or cold-therefore you can mix them with something warming like Ginger to retain the stop bleeding properties and alter the temperature. 3) What I neglected to mention in the case was that the blood was not overly bright nor abundant...and remember it was accompanied by loose stools and mucous, fatigue and a SLOW pulse. But because she did not complain of any COLD sensations, I tonified Qi, not Yang. And by the way, her pulse did pick up speed by the next week and the veins under the tongue became normal. 4) The acu tx was : Right Side: LI 4, SP 4,LIV 3 Left Side: P6, ST 36, 37 This style of TX is based upon my study of Richard Tan's work. So, diagonally across the body I openned the Chong one way and balanced it by working with the Yang Ming the other way.All points were palpated for tenderness and placed accordingly.
