Guest guest
1) I started my practice 18 years ago with Brion herbs. . . .I found the batches unevenly prepared, and their processing seems to eliminate the aromatics. So I stopped using their products. These days, I use KPC herbs, I like their tablets especially well. I use a lot of K'an water/alcohol extracts, modify them quite a bit, make my own proprietary formulas with water/alcohol extraction as well. I think China Herbs quality is very good, not quite as good as K'an. I am interested in Dr. Zhao's extracts, I'd like to try them out, if Catherine can get me his address. For raw formulas, I always use Spring Wind, then I know the quality is the best. I agree with Todd that there tends to be a lot of variables with the raw herbs, not the least of which is how the patients prepare them (usually very poorly). 2) On substitutions: again, Andy Ellis at Spring Wind is the expert here. I trust him on his choices. All systems of herbal medicine have used substitutions, when ingredients are not available, or according to local custom, or where several plants are listed as a medicinal (as with da qing ye or ban lan gen, when several plants provide the source material). However, some substitutions are related to cost, for profit motive, or indicative of the lowering in quality in certain sections of the marketplace. These must be avoided at all costs. Guest guest
Z'ev et al: Dr. Zhao's company is: East Tao Herb Pharmacy 2801 Rodeo Road, Suite F Santa Fe, NM 87505 (505) 438-7178 Also, what is the relationship between KPC and Lotus?? I just looked at a Lotus Herbs newsletter and they gave www.kpc.com as their website. Though now they have a separate website -- very pretty put so full of color and graphics that it takes years to download. www.lotusherbs.com Catherine - <zrosenberg < > Tuesday, November 30, 1999 2:51 PM different herbal preparations, substitutions > zrosenberg > > 1) I started my practice 18 years ago with Brion herbs. . . .I found the batches unevenly prepared, and their processing seems to eliminate the aromatics.
