I am a first year student at the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in Chicago. I am in the process of completing my first class in herbs and am interested in hearing everything I can about herbs as the subject seems so vast (even if it is over my head sometimes). -Steve -- Stephen Bonzak <smb021169
Guest guest
Hello Todd and Everyone, --- Moderator <-owner > wrote: > In order to have your subscription approved, you > must send a brief introduction about yourself to the > group at . I do not have a private practice. I work in a large Western medicine clinic that treats people with HIV and AIDS, mostly lower income. These clients can choose to have acupuncture if they like. Then they see me. I do not practice herbs too much with them because: 1. most are already taking so many pills, they do not want to take more medications. 2. most are low income and cannot afford the additional cost of herbs. 3. the MDs who run the place can accept it if I give an occasional prescription, but would not be happy if I had everyone on herbal prescriptions This is an unfortunate constraint, but at least I can serve one group of low-income patients that would have no access to Chinese medicine otherwise. In addition to Chinese medicine, I have been studying yijing, fengshui, and Chinese astrology with a teacher from Hong Kong since 1993. That's me. Good to meet all of you! Guest guest
As I understand it I am to share a little something about myself with the group. So here goes. I became involved with acupuncture almost 4 years ago. I worked in a hospital that used the NADA Protocol (National Acupuncture Detox Assoc.) to detoxify patients from alcohol and drugs. This technique is administered via the ears. Well needless to say I was not satisfied with just ears so I began to pursue my options in training on full body acupuncture. Where I live there are no schools so I was pretty sure I would not be able to pursue this as a career. Then a doctor friend of mine told me about apprenticeship in order to learn and Acupuncture and that I would be able to take the NCCAOM Boards if I met the requirements. She knew an acupuncturist who was willing to take me as a student. So for the last 3 years I have been studying Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture. I hope to sit for the boards in March 2002. I thought this group would be good for me because we use Chinese herbs in the p ractice. However that has not been my focus for the past 3 years. I feel it is time to integrate this modality into my training. I have some knowledge and clearly understand how powerful this form of treatment can be. I do not feel I can treat clients effectively without the use of herbs as well. Thank you for your time. Shane

Guest guest
Dear Academy: Thank you for the temporary r status to Chinese Herbal Medicine. I am a second year student at the Midwest College of Oriental Medicine in Racine, WI. Three years ago, I was introduced to by " accident. " During a Boy Scout high adventure activity (I was one of the leaders), I hurt my back carrying scuba tanks up and down ladders to the training tank. Upon returning home, I refused to go the route of orthodox medicine because of past negative experiences. I located an acupuncturist who gave me treatments in tui na, herbs, and acupuncture. I was hooked for life. This experience of healing was so overpowering that I knew I must do more research on this way of healing. I enrolled at MCOM in July 2000, a year after my first treatment. I am a 4.0 student working on my Master's Degree in Oriental Medicine. I have quit my job as an accountant and am thoroughly enjoying my new path. It was suggested by one of our instructors that any student interested in learning more about Chinese herbs than what was taught in class, should apply for the online student subscription to Chinese Herbal Medicine. I would greatly appreciate having the opportunity to be a student member so I may enhance my learning experience and bring this knowledge to my future clients of SE Wisconsin. I previously mentioned my involvement with the Boys Scouts of America and since my sons are no longer members, I have taken this love of working with young people to the classrooms of the local high school. I am now a permanent guest speaker to the Senior Health Class at Franklin High School. As I grow in knowledge of TCM, I bring this knowledge to the public. I plan of expanding my availability as guest speaker to other high schools and other groups in the area. Teach me and guide me in authentic TCM for I bring this knowledge to the general public. Respectfully submitted, Debra (Debbie) Onsager

Guest guest
Dear fellow TCM practitioners, My name is Emmy and I have been practicing TCM for 9 years. I attended Five Branches Institute and I currently have a small practice located in my home. I have two young children (ages 5 and 7) and a supportive husband. I am also a registered nurse with 15 years experience in emergency rooms and ICU'S. I am very interested to join this group as I feel that as health professionals we need to discuss our medicine so that we can practice at the highest level possible. I look forward to being part of this group. Thank you for your consideration. Sincerely, Emmy > Welcome to the Chinese Herbal Medicine! > > You are temporarily d. > This group is restricted to students of TCM colleges, professional TCM practitioners and others with my permission.
