Guest guest
Thanks, Graham, for the input on my Sjogren's/sinusitis/cough case. It is true that her tongue and pulse look more like dampheat than yin xu. She has been on my latest formula (more yin nourishing, less drying) for a week now and reports feeling better than she has in years. She is able to swallow without so much choking; she doesn't go into coughing spasms every time she talks at length; her bowel movements are almost everyday-before they were every 2-3/days; she is able to cough up the junk in her lungs much more easily; and she feels that her sinuses are starting to clear. She hasn't needed to use her inhaler and has also stopped taking Claritin which was probably drying her out more. Her tongue remains the same with maybe the beginnings of a thin consistent coat instead of the geographic one she had; her pulse is a little fuller in the Liver position. Her doc's are trying to schedule another (#3) sinus surgery and she is trying to keep them at bay. She is also attending a conference on Sjogren's where they will be discussing it's pulmonary implications. At this time she and I are the only memebers of her team who believe that the Sjogren's has anything to do with her cough. As a new practitioner, I am confused about the results of my formula in light of her pulse and tongue. Is it possible that she has yin xu and dampheat in her Lungs simultaneously? That the heat may be drying her righteous fluids? That maybe once she is better lubricated that it will then be more appropriate to clear the dampheat? I am just throwing ideas out here, trying to better understand her situation. Any ideas? Kristin Wisgirda

That the heat may be drying her righteous fluids? Graham Yes, absolutely possible. And with your reported improvements keep doing what you are doing. The texts on this topic maintain it to be a Yin Xu. I just haven't had the luck to see a simple one yet. Keep an eye out for changes in the symptom pattern. I am told there is a link between Sjogren's and Lupus. This would make sense to me. Cheers, Graham Jellett
