I've been studying the Blue Poppy translation (by Yang

Shou-zhong) of Dan Xi Zhi Fa Xin Yao. In the section

on abdominal pain ZDX mentions:

" There are (also) cases of rumbling due to cold

viscera with existence of water. It is appropriate to

treat this based on the division of the three Yin

regions: the venter, Taiyin, the periumbilical

abdomen, Shaoyin, and the lower abdomen, Jueyin. "

Can anybody tell me more about this? Does this mean,

for example, that one would pick formulas from Shang

Han Lun corresponding to the three Yin based on the

location of symptoms in the abdomen?

thanks,

robert

Robert,

This doesn't sound like Zhu Dan-xi is asking to choose SHL formulas for

these cases. . .rather, he is using the channel divisions to categorize

symptoms according to upper middle and lower burner. One would choose

prescriptions accordingly, but he doesn't list them here.

I would SPECULATE that shaoyin cold viscera with water COULD indicate a

prescription such as Zhen Wu Tang./True Warrior Decoction, which warms the

yang and resolves water swelling, but I am not absolutely sure that this is

what Zhu Dan-xi indicates.
