Guest guest
Karen I want to clarify one point. I am not suggesting that anyone learn to read the classics in Chinese. Very few can do this or should even try; even Bob Flaws cannot do this, as he will admit. However, ample translations are now available and one thing I can say unequivocally is that TCM was never meant to be practiced without their study. To merely add a specialty on top of an already weak foundation merely exacerbates the existing problem. People who learn this way end up broad, but not deep. Also, in order to make heads or tails from the translations, one must have a decent knowledge of medical chinese. In addition, medical chinese allows one to access modern chinese journal articles, which, ironically, is the place to find the stuff you crave, such as integration of modern and TCM theories and the impact of the modern diet and environment. I really don't see how anyone can defend a doctor NOT having access to over 99% of the extant medical literature and NO peer reviewed journals. I would not go to such a doctor myself.
