Guest guest
A sample one hour repeating broadcast is now playing 24 hours per day from the studios of the Herbal Broadcasting Station. I am still working on technical issues and would like any feedback. I am not sure how many listeners can connect at once and how decent quality is, etc. The broadcast will start automatically when you at the end of this message, but here's a few things to keep in mind first. If you have a slow modem connection, less than 56K, the sound may be too low quality to be worthwhile. If you have a fast computer with a 56k modem and good audio, you can still expect mediocre AM quality sound. Quite listenable unless there is a lot of net congestion, in which case it gets jerky. Tip: You often get better connection speed with a smaller ISP (i.e. other than AOL, Compuserve or phone companies). This audio clarity is a limitation of standard dialup connections that are beyond my control. The launching of the Herbal Broadcasting Station is designed to take advantage of the next phase in internet connectivity. Right now, access to basic dialup service is basically at 100% amongst educated professionals of all races (i.e. those with at least some postgrad work or masters or better). This is the group that concerns a professionally oriented site like Chinese Herbal Medicine. So while it may take some time before everyone is online at all, much less high speed, it is very likely that within the next year or so, it will be as cheap enough to go high speed for most professionals. High speed connections like DSL provide high quality audio and even video possibilities. In order to listen to the broadcasts, you must have the Quicktime plug in. If the broadcast does not load, you are probably missing quicktime. There is a link for the quicktime download on the broadcast page. Tip: Before installing the new quicktime download, search your computer for all files with the name quicktime and throw them away first. Well, now you can hear me saying the same kind of things I write. WARNING: If you don't like reading what I write, I hear its even worse to listen to me. All feedback is welcome, in any event. here's the link: http://www..org/hbs.html Be sure to refresh your browser (netscape: SHIFT-RELOAD) if you have EVER been to this page before.
