Guest guest
I hope at least one person will share their two cents worth regarding herbs to treat kidney failure and glomerular nephritis. I posted a longer e-mail about it, including an herb formula which apparently has been researched and shown to work well in China. I think it got lost in the heat of the laser issue! I would most appreciate some input on this important topic which is well within the bounds of a Chinese herbal discussion group! Guest guest
Kevin I know acute crises of renal failure are treated in China with da huang to remove toxins via the bowels. Dr.Li liked dong chong xia cao, which she called herbal dialysis and dan shen makes sense for glomerular microcirculation. I have not found much written on chronic renal failure, but I would suspect that TCM kidney xu is fairly close to this one, given the s/s. If the patient is compliant and early stage, prog is good, otherwise ... , " Kevin O'Neil, L.Ac. Guest guest
Kevin, Dong Chong Xia Cao has been shown in some chinese studies to help repair kidney damage. I highly recommend you include it in any formula for kidney failure unless there is a lot of heat present. Otherwise I would stick to TCM differentiation for the core of the formula instead of relying on a " one-size-fits-all " research formula. It would be nice if some or all of the herbs in your post fit into the differentiation though as long as the research is sound. Mark
