To Sebastian, and all

If you are (still!) interested by TCM in Yunnan ptovince, you may check the

book:

<The transmission of > by Elisabeth Hsu

Cambridge University Press, 1999 (Cambridge Studies in Medical Anthropology)

ISBN 0 521 64542 5 paperback

from the back cover: " This is the first ethnographic study of three

different varieties of medical education. Conducting extensive fieldwork in

Kunming in the PRC, E. Hsu became the disciple of a qigong(healer)..she also

attended seminars of a senior Chinese doctor, who plunged his followers into

studying arcane medical classics, and she took regular courses for Chinese

students at the Yunnan College of TCM, where the standardised knowledge of

official Chinese medicine is taught. Dr Hsu compares theses different

medical traditions and shows how the same technical terms may take on

different meanings in different contexts... " .

I have read this book, recently. Highly recommended to all. It covers an

area of the english language CM literature rarely covered. The chapter on

the study of classical texts is worth the price of admission.
