Guest guest
I can't offer advice without seeing this patient, but I wonder if anyone has had actual success in this area. Latex is a serious, often life threatening allergy. It seems unlikely to me that once the sequence of events has been set in motion that it can be reversed. Any thoughts? Guest guest
Hi I have a text on chinese dermatology around here somewhere, I 'll see if I can find it and dig it out. As I recall it the basic premise was this type of allergic condition was a combination of wind-heat + damp-heat (bup, scute, chrysanthemum, phello, dictamnus, forsythia, TK, arctii, glycyrhizzae, perhaps +/- gardeniae, anem, schizandra, morus leaf, gentianae, etc. depending on the actual presentation). Also I seem to remember a protocol from an alternative western medical doctor about using high does of vit. C, especially buffered C, bio flavonoids, antioxident complexes, B-complex, and micro nutrients (another book I have around here somewhere, I'll dig it up as well, and get back to you). Then there is always conventional allergy desensitization shots, which are a hassle, a bit of a pain (especially for a little one), and not cheap, but they do work, and are probably much less painful, and a hassle over the long run than having to chronically deal with the allergy, and living " chronically doped up " on diphenhydramine all the time. Also doesn't sound like she has had a consult with a proper allergist, or wholistic MD/DO, (I know, alternatives that are not TCM Herbs), but probably well worth a " shot " (pun intended). Especially if there is the possibility of anaphylaxis....... I also have a colleague who practices mainly NAET (I can hear the screams of pain now from others on the list-sorry folks), who says that sometimes it really works miracles in allergic problems (plus the western research showing allergic reactions are a function of consciousness more than pure biology), again not " chinese herbs " but compared to a life on Benedryl, or possible anaphylaxis, certainly worth a trial, (and non-invasive). I know many on the list really look down their collective noses at anything new, different, or any of the more modern " chinese Internal med " / bian bing / scientific research based / new techniques / integrated approaches / western medical approaches / nutrition etc, but as far as I am concerned, if it works, helps a pt. achieve a better quality of life, alleviates misery & suffering, and promotes a longer and better life, then my personal criteria for appropriateness are satisfied. Any way thats my $.02 worth, I will get back to you when I find the mentioned books. Guest guest
Hi I would treat this by the pattern it represents. When I've seen this, it's manifested mainly as windheat with heat in the blood and sometimes some damp. A modification of Xiao Feng San often helps. Because she is young, she may likely respond quickly to the right modification. You would have to see her and assess her constitution first though.
