Guest guest
To all: Our active membership now includes many of the well known publishers and writers in the field. From here on in, we should all assume that someone famous we are talking about on this list may actually be reading our words within minutes. I think we ned to be particularly careful about speculating about others motives as opposed to their technical arguments. We all have vested interests and we all pretty much know what those interests are. Since no one is trying to deny these vested interests, I think it is a straw man argument to focus on this issue. In other words, we cannot dismiss an argument merely because someone stands to gain if they are proved right. So lets not even go there. thanks
Guest guest
On the subject of netiquette, It's long been considered a breach of netiquette to post attachments to a high-volume mailing list. So many different mail clients and news readers handle attachments differently (or not at all), and so many people are using different software in different versions to create their documents that it just isn't practical. It also increases download time, which others have already noted as an issue with this list. If what we're talking about is important enough to post to the list, it is important enough to make certain that it is accessible to all rs. For those who feel they simply must offer information in a proprietary format, an alternative would be to upload the file and provide a summary and a link in your message. For formatted text, with or without graphics, HTML works beautifully and nearly all document processors nowadays will save your work as HTML. Todd has kindly done this with a number of files that were originally posted as attachments. My two cents, Jeffrey
