I relise that there are different opinions about who translated something

correctly or incorrectly.I have just a simple question .I have a patient who

is liver fire /with damp heat burning downwards who has one main distressing

symptom....Itchy anus.

All my prescriptions have taken the heat out of his tongue etc .but no

change to the itch.

From a western medical perspective he has candida .

Does anyone know any specific herbs or points that can address this

symptom?

Dear Heiko,

It would help if you would list more details of the case, including

pulse, tongue, and the overall symptom pattern. Also, dietary factors;

some individuals react to foods such as avocado with this symptom. Also,

how did he get the diagnosis of candida? The script long dan xie gan tang

comes to mind, but perhaps you have already tried this one?

Dear Heiko

It would be nice to know the type of prescription you already have tried but

here's a couple of suggestions off the top of the head

1 Typical acupuncture points for anal problems including itch & pain due to

haemmoroids- BL 57 (could also use BL 56 or 58), Er Bai (Extra points on the

forearm) and DU1 as a local point ( radiate the needle sensation to the

anus)

2 Fang Feng -used for Intestinal Wind- this is not exactly itch (usually

tenesmus with bleeding from the anus )but maybe worth a try.

3) Have the Damp Heat been primarily targeted to the Liver/ Gallbladder?

Have you been using Damp heat herbs that go to the Large Intestine such as

Huang Qin, Qin Pi? Possibly a short burst of these kind of herbs to clear up

what is possiblly some residual Damp Heat in the Large Intestine.

Cheers

Derek,

It would be helpful to know which formulas you have already tried that

haven't helped, but as far as points go, have you tried UB 40, 57 and Du 1?

Tea tree oil diluted and applied locally can be helpful to the itching( it

has helped many fungal-natured(gu-type?) problems. What are the nature of

his stools? Strong smelling? Pasty? Urination color and frequency? The more

information the better. Shelly Krahn
