Guest guest
Have you tried having the patient use an external wash? It may help a bit. I have prescribed washes of Shi Chuang Zi, Ku Shen, and one or more of the Yellow Brothers for itchy anus or genital region. Henry

Guest guest
Heiko, Often when muco-cutaneous candidiasis like you describe gets really firmly established, the only thing that will get rid of it is topical western anti-fungals (ketoconazole/Nizoral, Fluconazole/Diflucan, etc.), appled consistently, and long term, (sometimes requiring the addition of an additional antibacterial agent as well) to really completely eradicate it from the skin. Candida will literally " Bore " into the skin, and since there is not the high volume flow of herbs passing by constantly as there can be in the GI with consistent oral administration of herbs, and the area is moist, warm and dark, and subject to abrasion/maceration, and the local immunity is already comprimised, it often is impossible to erradicate this condition herbally. For some things western medicine really is better, this condition is usually one of them. Have him get the topical antifungals from his physician, and keep at it till its completely gone (sometimes this can take many, many months of continous therapy to get it all) . If your oral herb formulas have truly cleared the tongue picture, and cleared the candida out of the intestinal tract (the source of the infection), and the pt. has repopulated their GI with healthy microflora, then once the skin infection is gone it should mostly stay gone, (however this kind of problem can tend to recurr from time to time, so he needs to keep a supply of the topicals on hand and use them at the first sign of relapse. Guest guest
Hi Bruce He has been on western drugs for 10 years for the problem. He concludes that they don't help. So its back to herbs again !!! Guest guest
In the case that it might be a fungal infection, an external wash should be effective but it has to be used regularly for quite some time. So, if the internal imbalance has been cleared and the infection is in the skin a wash might help out. While its not a Chinese herb, he might also try something like Tea Tree oil topically. Again, consistency is the key. I know a physician here in Boston who would regularly prescribe Tea Tree oil for fungal infections such as anal or genital itch rather than give western anti-fungals. Again, while not herbs, you may also try local needling or bloodletting at points like GV1. But with topical appliations of any kind I do think consistency is the key. As was mentioned before, fungal infections especially can be very stubborn and resist treatment for months. Good luck, Henry Henry McCann, D.Ac., L.Ac., Dipl. Ac. & C.H. Guest guest
Hello Heiko- Just some thoughts re the itchy anus. Reviewing the posts, it seems some mention was made re intestinal flora, and it seems your patient may have worked on repopulation of the colon. An additional element might be to try a retention enema infused with a good quality flora (acidophilus bifudus), or even perhaps a sitz bath of same - if it seems localized to the rectum area -- but you did say 'anus', implying irritation extending further up. For itch, I have found the various Chin. patents dealing with itch (you know, the ones with snake/armadillo/tortoise as signature ing.) to be effective for various types of itching. There is also a Chin. patent cream for hemorrhoids and other skin irritations/inflammations: called pientzehuang. (orange packaging). Following this line of thought, some of the oral formulas for hemorrhoids might be useful as well, of which there are several patents available. Also various brands of suppositories containing like herbs. They all contain anti-inflammatory/cool heat in the blood herbs. It's possible that a persistent bacterial infection is present despite his prior use of antibiotics. When other herbal remedies have failed for crotch irritations of various kinds, i have sometimes found an OTC antibacterial drug store ointment useful - called Bacitracin. Don't know if that's available over there, but thought i'd mention it. Apologies if this is redundant. Ann Ann Brameier, L.Ac., Dipl. Guest guest
Heiko, Two thoughts, one is that if he was using topicals before you cleared his intestinal tract it would not be surprising that it didn't work before. The other thought, can you get Hydrogen Peroxide Gel where you live? It can also be very effective. Bruce
Guest guest
Dear Heiko, One last suggestion-Bian Xu. Bian Xu clears Damp Heat from the Bladder & Intestines. It is specifically indicated for itching of the anus due to Damp Heat in the Intestines. Derek High
