Perhaps that is as it should be. Who wants the government doing any more than guaranteeing safety, anyway? Even CEU's are required by your board, you can get away with just about anything. >> Licensing boards also measure for efficacy, as thiat is one of their charges. It is a misnomer that is is for the minimum safe level of training. Lisensing boards are responsible to the consumer affiars in most states. Guest guest
I have heard only 50% of graduates from TCM schools are actually practicing (TCM) .. This is one of those grape-vine stats.. _Jason HappyHerbalist.com [Health] Monday, May 29, 2000 12:22 PM RE: who's responsible for higher standards Ken, isn't it a requirement when obtaining a license to operate a school in California that these statistics are available? I believe that is one of the questions the state asks on its form. school license a school to be able to promote to potential students that 95% of its graduates are practicing successfully? First we have to find out what the percentage is. Perhaps with a broadbased call for such monitoring there would develop a serious disincentive to remain ignorant of the outcome of the educational process. It seems like any educator sincerely dedicated to quality would jump at the chance to be able to assess their products. It would be interesting to hear from representatives of the schools themselves on this issue and to learn whether or not such an intiative would be supported or fought. Guest guest
Another factor affecting the income of acupuncture school graduates, is lack of BUSINESS skills and lack of motivation to acquire good business skills. I actually think this is a major factor -- something I've struggled with and something I'd say 75% of the pracititioners I know struggle with. Also, it's very slow going trying to start a business with little to no capital and having to work other jobs while building a practice. Therefore, I think a study based on income should not look at the first five years of practice. These first few years are often unstable due to many other factors besides skill.
