Guest guest
Hello Cecilia, I'm happy to share more detail. This patient is a 59 yr.old female, a paralegal professional, approx. 5'6'' instature, and weighing approx. 200 lbs. She is slightly hunched over. Her facial complexion is slightly pale with some redness around the cheek bones. It is somewhat difficult to judge her sheen as she wears make-up. She ventures from a giggly restless demeanor to tears to worry. [she becomes panicky if she does not feel the needle sensation, and often remarks, " am I numb? " ] [Note: I practice a style of acupuncture where I use relatively thin needles, generally of a diameter of .18 mm and have been taught that it is crucial for me the practitioner to feel " De Qi " and not necessarily the patient. In this regard, the needling technique is similar to that of many Japanese styles.] I will look at her tongue when she returns. She has no remarkable odor. The patient experiences sporadic cold sweats, usually at night but also sometimes during the day. She reports that sometimes her feet get cold, although she more frequently complains of numbness. Her appetite varies. Sometimes she binges. Her bowel movements are normal in that she defecates daily, however she desribes them as foul-smelling. She complains of chronic pain, esp. in the lower legs (which are quite swollen) esp., in the medial ankle along the Kidney meridian (K.3 - K.6) , lower back, middle back, neck, and an area along the Lung meridian (right side only) proximal to Lu.7 and distal to Lu.6) The skin tone of her body is slightly dry. She reports that occasionally she has difficulty falling asleep, but once asleep she does not wake till morning. She is always tired. Besides the swelling in her ankles, she is bloated in the abdomen, which generally has the feel of " jello " . There is tightness and constriction and occasional pain at CV 13, and in the upper right hypochondriac region as well in the lower left quadrant. The lower abdominal region is empty and deficient esp. at CV 6. I assume that there is a fair amount of scar tissue in the chest region as she has undergone bilateral mastectomy, but I have not examined this area and have referred her to a female massage therapist. She does not menstruate as she has had a hysterectomy. She is taking Premarin. When she first appeared, this patient complained of severe fatigue, brain fog or spaciness, nausea, weight gain, water retention, cold sweats, chest constriction, a feeling of a lump in her throat and difficulty swallowing, a sensation of arrhythmia, and emotional instability and chronic pain as depicted above. Besides the history of cancer and hypothyroidism (for she prescribed Synthroid), she has a history of epilepsy which is controlled by medication. I have unfortunately already [overly] described her radial pulses. That's fundamentally it. I have noted my current daignosis and treatment strategies at message 1286. I hope that this information is adequate. I have received some suggestions at my personal email address and am grateful. [i try to respond to those personally.] Thank you for your consideration. luke
