Guest guest
Just a thought.... Shouldn't our primary intention regard the best methods in treating our patients? [i commend here any MD who has delved into Oriental medicine. Like i've stated before, none of us have all the answers and it takes tremendous courage and intent for an MD, brain-washed thru residency, to seek answers elsewhere. We, practitioners of non-allopathic medicine, should follow this effort!] Is this site aimed at educators (many of whom are also authors and translators) or practitioners? Educators often have vested interest. They are forced to defend their points of view. To assume that this East Asian tradition is superior to other systems is like putting blinders on a horse. (Premarin, aside.) Let us put away our biases and seek how to best serve the needs of people who are not feeling well. [The fact that this way of comprehending disease (epistemology) has existed for thousands of years does not prove that it is ontologically adequate. I wonder, and I am unfortunately uninformed, as to life expectancy in China? Thanks to this wonder-ful system, do people in China live longer, and do they experience a better quality of life?] I reiterate that there exists a dichotomy of purist and eclectic, and it seems that most educators fall into the category of purist, and that most practitioners fall into the eclectic category. My personal intent is to best serve my patients. When I teach, and this audience includes practitioners of allopathic medicine, I hope to convey the overall paradigmatic structure of East Asian medicine regarding the interpretation of dis-ease. I hope to convey that dis-ease is a dis-harmony, an imbalance. In my practise, my goal is to return my patient to a situation of harmony, internally and externally. Live and (hopefully) learn. luke P.S. This is an informal chat site. My goal in taking part is one of gaining perspective and knowledge. I relinquish the need to defend my point of view. I merely hope to exchange knowledge, and subsequently gain wisdom.... I appreciate passionate thought and/or feelings. There is however no need for insult. luke
