Guest guest
Sorry, my post on China was unnecessarily hyperbolic. While I do prefer western values and culture, I do not support nuclear war, trade boycotts or populist morons. I was trying to illustrate the common perception of TCM by the politically active left (and the buchananites), not my own beliefs. Many acupuncturists do not realize how much contempt our profession has amongst these type of activists (labor, environment and animal rights) and that their specific issues are often well justified. Those of you who have seen my posts on herb trade with China in the past well know that I have often dismissed widespread claims of endangered species trade, pesticide contamination and fungicide use as unfounded. So, I am not a China basher. I call em like I see em. The left should be our allies, not our enemies. Staying in bed with folks like Orrin Hatch is just going to backfire on us in the long run, I think. We need to make inroads with the left to survive. Some enlightened publishing companies are now taking the lead on these issues and not just just glossing over them in their textbooks. I hope that is a trend. This is the type of constructive approach I prefer to bombing on almost all occasions. Time to eat.
Guest guest
I agree with much of what Todd says in this post and can tell you that in the next edition of our materia medica we will put some substances in a section on outmoded substances of historical interest only which will include both those of unacceptable toxicity and those involving truly endangered species.
