Guest guest
Taraxacum does not appear to deplete K+. I recall Cascade Anderson-Geller refer to it as being better in activity than lasix and without the potassium depleting aspect. Nonetheless, always monitor a patient undergoing diuretic therapy (and be absolutely sure in the first place that that is what is needed). Potassium is but one electrolyte or mineral that is depleted during such therapeutic regimes and regular laboratory tests are recommended if these are used in large doses acutely or long-term. As for the species here in the NW, I was taught that what we have here is Taraxicum off. Perhaps this is a mistake, but it has nonetheless been used for many years here with much sucess as Taraxicum off. is intended. I imagine if we were in China where substitutions seem to be the rule rather than the exception, they wouldn't think twice about it and use it just the same --for example, many different species of chrysanthemum are often substituted because of their general activity though each species has its own specialization in treating disease as well. If you have any other questions dont hesitate to contact me. Regards, Thad Jacobs, N.D.
