Guest guest
A few people asked me to provide information on the Smokers Aromatherapy that I use in conjunction with acupuncture and Ardisia 16 for smoking cessation. I originally ordered these after a recommendation from a colleague in Portland, Oregon. She said that occasionally she had a smoker who wouldn't respond to acupuncture and Ardisia 16, but when she added this aromatherapy, even her most recalcitrant patients stopped smoking. The company that distributes the formula in the US is called Longherb Health Products, Inc. They're based in Fairfield, IA. Their toll free number is 800-SMOKER2. Not being near a phone, I'm not sure what numbers those letters correspond to. It's an interesting formula. It contains: peppermint cinnamon bark tangerine peel areca nut honeysuckle pseudoginseng lophanthus rugosus cordate houttuynia " food essential oil " (no idea what that is) distilled water panax ginseng licorice prickly-ash oolong tea chrysanthemum gastrodia pheretima asiatica polygala alochol The company claims it can be used by itself to stop smoking within a single week, although I haven't had that experience. I usually use it as one aspect of a larger treatment protocol. It's very expensive, costing between $8.00 and $11.00US depending upon the volume purchased, and it's a very small vial. In that it is quite aromatic, I suspect that its strength would diminish significantly after about 2 weeks of use. The instructions say to relax calmly and breathe the aroma 3 times a day and whenever craving cigarettes for a couple of minutes. I have found that some people really like this stuff and experience it as highly effective, eliminating cravings and anxiety. Others buy it and are unimpressed, preferring the settling of mood provided by the Ardisia 16. One side-effect I noted came from a woman with a history of illicit drug use, including marijuana and hallucinogenic mushrooms. She stated that she received a slight buzz effect from smelling the mixture. So far, though, she's been the only one who had that response. This company sells a few other things, mostly patents, but never having purchased them before, I cannot comment on their quality, safety, or efficacy. In any event, I have found it works well with some people and others have little response. Overall, however, I generally recommend it and leave it up to the patient. My interest is in providing the greatest number of supports to patients trying to stop smoking as possible.
