Guest guest
From my understanding there are 2 Siberian ginsengs (one is eleutherococcus sen. - which is much different than wu jia pi - acanthopanax) I am unsure of the pinyin of the former, I have seen many names; including ci wu jia)... I personally believe that ci wu jia is a kid yang and qi tonic. While wu jia pi is many times used for dispersing wind-damp and also tonifies kid and liver (yin?). What do others think? - > > heiko [heiko] > Tuesday, September 26, 2000 1:50 PM > > Re: Siberian ginseng/Al Stone > > > I thought Siberian ginseng was just wu jia pi and marketed with the name > ginseng to sell it easily. > ren shen and wu jia pi having quite different functions. > > Heiko Lade > Registered Acupuncturist / Chinese Herbalist > 2 Jenkins St. > Green Island, Dunedin > New Zealand > Tel: (03) 488 4086, Fax: (03) 488 4012 > http://www.lade.com/heiko > Email: heiko > > > > Chinese Herbal Medicine, a voluntary organization of licensed > healthcare practitioners, matriculated students and postgraduate > academics specializing in Chinese Herbal Medicine, provides a > variety of professional services, including board approved online > continuing education. > >
Guest guest
Wu jia pi, Acanthopanax gracilistylis (A. giraldii or Periploca sepium Bunge), is similar but not the same as Siberian ginseng, Elutherococcus senticosus, Si wu jia. Both, like Panax ginseng, are aralias and the Russian eluthero may on occasion be substituted for Acanthopanax. Siberian ginseng and Panax ginseng are categorized differently, but have somewhat overlapping functions. Eleuthero is more neutral in temperature than Panax (and probably is slightly less warming than Acanthopanax), is better for younger, highly stressed patients than Ren shen, supports the adrenals and supports immunity. It has more general adaptogenic/tonic properties and probably is suitable for a wider population. It reinforces Qi, invigorates Spleen and Kidney function and calms the nerves. There is substantial Russian scientific literature on eluthero. Karen Vaughan CreationsGarden *************************************** Email advice is not a substitute for medical treatment.
