Guest guest
Thanks Sean & Julie, I have considered ozone generators, but I don't know how I feel about them. Does anyone have any data about ozone generators & health? The smell of ozone does not feel healthy to me, but maybe it's just because I associate it with melting semiconductors. Guest guest
HI Peter, I have been interested in getting one, but holding back as well. With your questioning I started looking around and found this one article from WebMD where an allergist was interviewed. Below is what the doc had to say about them. He was decidedly against ozone generators and pointed to an EPA document on the topic. I think this is the document he was referring to http://www.epa.gov/iaq/pubs/ozonegen.html. Hope this helps. Sean Countdown to World Asthma Day with Michael WeinBreath & SlumberWednesday, April 26, 2000 5:00 PM EDT Dr. Wein: Ozone is a lung irritant which is sometimes produced by ion generators, and some other electronic air cleaners, and also directly by ozone generators. There is no medical indication of a need for an ozone generator in a home environment. There is a limit above which the Food and Drug Administration has determined that ozone is harmful. Although ozone is sometimes used to reduce odors in a space not occupied by people, the level to achieve this is not safe for humans. The Federal Trade Commission has filed a lawsuit against companies that make ozone generators. They have sought civil penalties, because there are no competent and reliable scientific studies to back up the claims by the makers. The FTC has alleged that these companies misrepresented their product. Guest guest
I was looking into air purifiers to help get rid of new carpet off-gassing a while back. Found that ozone can be dangerous to use, but that might be with the large commercial generators. I can't remember the details now but I know with the large ones you were supposed to take out all living things, including plants, and run it over night or over a weekend and not stay in the space while it was running. There's lots of info out there on the internet if you do a search.
