Shan zha helps spleen transformation of food, as well as having astringent properties, as Julie noted. Guest guest
Julie, Shan Zha occassionally assists the moving of stool as does the slightly sour Zhi Shi. The acids that contribute to the sour taste may stimulate paristalsis.....Will <It being a sour herb, it is not surprising that it could help astringe the diarrhea. I would like to find out where people get extensive herbal knowledge that is not in our Bensky, Yeung, etc. books. I am especially interested in Shan Zha, therefore, any pointers to good sources would be appreciated. Thank you. Now that I am teaching intro to Herbs, I feel responsible to know as much as possible.
