Guest guest
I've recently been looking into the history of Shan Yao and found some sketchy tellings of an effort here in the States to replace the potato with Shan Yao in and about the 1850s. Does anyone know more about this? Beyond the potato famine, what were the forces/institutions behind such an effort and its eventual failure? Also, Richter's catalogue (a large Canadian supplier of herbs to both retail & commercial growers) states that Shan Yao originated in the Phillipines. Are others familiar with this? Any similar anecdotal or folklore info about Shan Yao would be most appreciated--even if you can just point me to a text. You can send mail to me directly if you like. Thanks!
