Guest guest
After finishing high school in 1990 I started studying alternative medicine in 1991 at the Samuel-Hahnemann-Schule in Berlin/Germany. The german equivalent of naturopath is " Heilpraktiker " (literally: " healing practicioner " ). I attended this fulltime school for 3 years, studying chinese medicine, homeopathy, western herbal medicine, massage and shiatsu as well as basics of western medicine. In 1993 I first visited China to study chinese medicine (mainly acupuncture and basics) at the ChengDu Zhong Yi Xue Yuan for nearly 3 months. After finishing the school in Berlin I decided not to go on with the healing profession but to play music, which I did for 2 years. By selling african drums I got to know a general practicioner from Munich (Peter Powalka,MD) who only treats with chinese medicine and who invited me to stay at his private clinic. I did for 6 months and got right back into it. This is where I learned about chinese herbs (Porkert school). So after passing my licence of Heilpraktiker ( I was, by law too young before), I returned to ChengDu in 1998 to now stay for 6 months. That time I spend 5 months in the herbal departments (internal, gynecology, pediatric, skin). In the autumn of 1998 I started my western medicine studies at the University of Leipzig. Through giving a free introductory course to students being interested in chinese medicine I tried to keep it alive. I also worked as an assistant in teaching gynecologists and midwives acupuncture for obstetrics. After passing the Physikum (major exam after 2 years) in summer 2000 I decided to start my own practice as part time occupation and cut down the teaching. So, that's it. Oh, I forgot:language skills: German, French, English, Chinese (getting by speaking, not reading) Looking forward to share insights in chinese medicine with people from all over yours, Patrick Rudolph,HP,cand.med.
