Guest guest
Does anyone know what the norm is for breastfeeding in chinese culture and/or professional TCM practice in China. I am interested in determining at what age the child should be weaned to maximize health for both mother and child. The American academy of Pediatrics recommends 1 year. Two seems reasonable to me, but continuing past that seems like it would unnecessarily deplete the mother and have no real benefits for the child. I also know the worldwide norm is about 4, but this is largely due to poverty and I do not think we should be duplicating the mothering styles of impoverished mothers in various underdeveloped countries just because of some romantic vision that these folks live closer to the land and more naturally. If such a lifestyle actually produced better health, then why are infant mortality and infectious disease rates so high amongst these populations? -- Chinese Herbal Medicine
