Dear Group:

A Case Study (for something different). I've just graduated, so my dx is

simple. I'd feel better with a better understanding of this situation.

Female, age 65, 4'8 " ', 200 lbs. Retired

Chief Complaint: Cough, and sticky sweat from neck, head, face.

Diabetic x10+ years. Didn't take the prescribed insulin injections for a long

time (years). Now, 15 various western drugs daily for diabetes, HBP,

Cholesterol, Low thyroid, hormone replacement, plus. In Fall of 2000,

hospitalized for pnuemonia and CHF. Since then, very frequent cough, lots of

white phlegm-sort of hard to get out, cold, very frequent profuse urination

(every 2 hrs at night, 10 or 12 times during day), recent nausea & vomitting

(past couple of weeks), no appetite-easy to feel full, sometimes loose stool,

some bloated feeling. After she eats, sweats profusely on neck, face and head a

very sticky substance. This sweat has gotten worse - more frequent. Sometimes,

plum pit qi. Complexion-pale. Sometimes vertex headache.

Other basics: Knee pain somtimes, had broken bones in feet, vision has gotten

extremely poor due to bleeding in the eyes. She's had many laser tx for this.

Sleep ok except as disturbed for urination, cold hands & feet now (used to be

too hot all the time). After eats, feels cold. Easy anger. Energy low.

Delivered 14 children in her life.

Tongue was pink with no coat, smooth edges, small horizonal cracks. Pulse was

R-1st position wiry, forceful, 2nd-rolling, thready, 3rd - thin, wiry, deep.

Left-thin,wiry, deep, sl forceful. BPM-84, Respiration 20

DX: cough d/t phlegm dampness, Kid/Sp Yang deficiency, Kid yin def.

She's in PA, I'm in FL. My mom. No one (western) can tell her what this sweat

is. She really wants to know this answer. I will be moving to PA in a couple

more months. I was there in November. We sent her raw herb formula of Fu Ling

12g, Gui Zhi 9g, Bai Zhu 12, GanCao 6, Huang Qi 20, Chen Pi 9, Ban Xia 9, Zi Wan

12, Bai Bu 15, Wei Wu Zi 6, Zhi Mu 15, Mai Meng Dong 12. (My Chinese TCM Dr from

school helped me with this formula.) Dose 1/2 cup TID. She cooked and finished

2 bags of herbs. Then began feeling nauseous and didn't want to take it - she

thought she was getting the flu. Vomitted a couple of times over the next 2

weeks...this was immediately prior to being admitted for kidney failure Monday

(Jan 15th.)

She was just hospitalized first part of this week with a spot of pneumonia and

kidney failure. Sent home on a low potassium diet and additional new meds.

She wanted help with the cough...and the sweat.
