Guest guest
I'd like the group's collective wisdom on the energetics of the Peruvian herb maca, Lepidium Meyenii and various other Lepidium species. >From my limited experience, the root is a food grade herb (mustard family), a kidney yang tonic and probably increases spleen qi. Colleagues have suggested that it also supports kidney yin, essence and qi. I don't have a good sense of taste or temperature from the forms I've experimented with, but it has dramatic effects on male and female (perimenopausal) libidio, restores a sense of well-being and aids energy. Reduces hot flashes in menopausal women, s liver effect. Probable cx or caution for masses in reproductive organs (based upon SWAG). Western classifications: Antifatigue, aphrodisiac, nutritive, increases memory, anti-stomach cancer, immunostimulant, steroidal and general tonic (western sense). Literature shows laboratory confirmation of the following: Immunostimulant, for anemia, tuberculosis, menstrual disorders, menopause symptoms, stomach cancer, sterility and other reproductive and sexual disorders and to enhance memory. Antihypoglycemic for rats. Increases fertility and birthweight in cows and guinnea pigs but disrupts pregnancy in rats. Increases seminal fluid volume, sperm concentration and sperm motility in rams. Constituents: Alkaloids, aminoacids, beta-ecdysone, calcium, iron, magnesium, p-methoxybenzyl isothiocyanate, phosphorus, saponins, stigmasterol, sitosterol, tannins, zinc, Vit B1, Vit B2, Vit B12, Vit C and Vit E. Evomonoside (digitoxigenin 3-O-a-L-rhamnoside), Benzyl isothiocyanate, Lepidium capitatum hexane fraction @ 12 mg is equivalent to 1 ug estradiol. Maca root contains 59% carbohydrates, 10.2% protein, 8.5% fiber and 2.2% lipids (including linolenic, palmitic and oleic acids).
