And how did they come to be considered authorities? > In reference to the above questions I do not believe that because someone can & does translate and write a book... that it makes them in authority. Reminds me of the Bible... in all its translations, and all that! Personally I would like to see more books written about Physician's practicing in the states, what works and what does not. Yes indeed reading and studying the Shang Han Lun, Qin Bo Wei, Treatise of Spleen & Stomach, Chinese Materia Medica... to name a few is great and gives me a plethora of information, a wonderful foundation and direction to build on. I see the authors of those books as guides certainly not the end all. What I hope and look forward to seeing is more published clinical case studies, as well as controlled scientific work. However, even then I will not see the those writers, as people who have authority over CM in the West! Recently I attended a seminar with Dr. Qingcai Zhang and he presented the idea of Modern . This idea is resonating well with me. We were given his book Healing Hepatitis C with Modern and I really like how it integrates Western & together! Having looked up authority in a dictionary: 1. power or right to act or command; 2. power to act for another; 3. influence commanding respect; 4. expert; 5. quotation or opinion cited as proof; 6. agency or cooperation established by government to administer a public service and expected to be self-supporting; 7.the authorities government officials. If you mean authority in relation to number 4 " expert " I see the experts being the ones who actually wrote the book, not the translators. I also see the experts being the ones who are publishing their clinical experiences! Teresa
