thanks for your interesting ideas on dreaming. I have wondered, ever

since TCM theory 101, whether or not to accept the idea that dreaming is a

symptom of a pathological imbalance (i.e. Shen [or Hun] disturbance).

As to the Indian ideas, (in the very little I've read of the piles of books

I hope to read) I've also heard that - despite the potential for continuous

gratification of the desires - rnanubandanas can be resolved and all sorts

of acts can be committed, karma-free, in dreaming.

I've had yet another patient mention that she uses ai ye, raw, in her pillow

to induce dreaming. Any ideas how we might explain such a

function using TCM theory?

How about magic? Doesn't anyone believe in magic? (I know you'll like that

response, Jeff.)

I've heard about and tried this mugwort trick too. Even if we could figure

out which TCM functions or Western functions (e.g. the fact that it's

stimulates secretion of pituitary gonadotropins?) might produce such an

effect, how do we explain the assimilation of the herb through resting one's

head near it?

Incidentally, I've also had good results with B-6 and spirulina just before

bed. And someone once told me that eating a large quantity of cheese before

bed will induce intense, but unpleasant, dreams.

Also, (CHA member) Peter Eschwey recently quoted me some interesting info

from G.A. Stuart's " Chinese Materia Medica. " I encourage him to put in his

two cents.

If you're thinking if qi stag in relation to PMS, then maybe yue ji hua is

slightly

more elegant.

Does Yue ju hua promote the free flow of liver Qi? I've asked a few people

about this... some Chinese docs said yes, more said no. Where did you

learn about this use of the herb? If Yue ju hua is a close cousin of

Feverfew, which works well for migraines, maybe it does have some moving

properties.
