Alon A good example might be osteo arthritis that causes joint deformity. in this case there is usually kid def: it involves the bones. there is sensitilty to cold, it is chronic. and if we think of it developing from the divergent channels- then we presume that it started on the surface: wind cold damp, that wasn't expelled and therefore becomes encapsulated, so to speak. So yang he tang is deeply restorative, (Shu di, Rou gui, lu jaio jiao) and at the same time drives cold phlegm out to the surface (bai jie zi and ma huang). I have a patient w/ this kind of arthritis as well as asthma and yang he tang has been like a gift to her.
