Guest guest
Rory.... As an example: the berberine content of Huang Qin, Huang Bai, Huang Lian allows us to find possible analogues in the west that contain the same material such as Oregon grape root, and yellow root. I am suggesting that chemical constituents are one piece of a decision making algorithm for determining (1) whether differing species of the same genus may have smiler functions (2) suitable analogues for clinical use should there be trade route breakdown. Now I am not suggesting that the plants listed above have exactly the same functions based o berberine content, I am suggesting that they all drain damp heat. A good example of this is ma huang's derivatives metoprolol tartate (lopressor), atenolol (tenormin), nadolol (corgard), timolol (timoptic). Another good example of this is the several derivatives of coca.
