Will: I appreciate your response to my query. When I studied at Kyung Hee

Hospital in Seoul, Korea I observed the application of " constitutional

diagnosis " for the first time with herbal application. Outside of this

situation I have yet to find any constitutional categorization that works

with herbal medicine. In my TCM education the constitution was usually just

looked at as their " underlying weakness " ..maybe this is enough but I would

llike to offer patients longer term herbal treatment as " prevention " so the

constitutional predispositions are less likely to manifest.

In addition I have never seen that copy of the Ling Shu..where did you find

it? Is it academic? ......Peace..Kelly

Kelly:

It is refreshing to hear you discuss a thought process that goes beyond the management of a symptom or a disease. The classics say this is a hallmark of a superior physician. Too often the practice of TCM is involved with the chief complaint, and even the root may be conceived from a superficial point of view. You are discussing the virtue of medium term treatment strategy -- the maintenance of the well person. It is also important to consider long term treatment, including those strategies that would affect longevity (I know Jim has some cool formulas for this. Anyone else?).

The version of the Yellow Emperor's Canon that contains the Ling Shu I cited (China Science and Technology Press) is available from Redwing.
