Hi Y'all:

My name is Diane Kent and I live and work in Austin, TX. I first received my acupuncture license in Washington state in 1992 and practised until I moved to Texas in 1998. Unfortunately they changed the Texas license requirements so I had to study herbs to get licensed again. Fortunately though - I may not have furthered my studies unless I was forced to.

I received my Texan license in Dec. 2000 and am setting up, this time with herbs.

Well - that's my intro.

I'm starting my pharmacy with extracts from Lotus and Mayway and Mayway raw herbs. Do you experienced herbalists think that's a good idea? Any suggestions?

I look forward to being involved and learning from your discussions.

Diane

Hi Diane.

Question for you. Now that you're working with herbs too, do you find

yourself more adept at issues of internal medicine? How did you treat

these types of things before you worked with herbs?

I answer a lot of e-mail which are usually something like " Can

acupuncture fix my problem? " Many of the problems are Western diagnosis

of internal medicine for which I usually tell people that this is a

question herbal medicine, not acupuncture. If the problem is stress

induced, I lean toward the acupuncture and there are a few other

pathologies that are better with acupuncture. But admitidly, I feel

sometimes that I'm short changing the acupuncturists of the world by

saying this.

Do you think that I am right in following this sort of reasoning, since

you've been on both sides of the fence, so to speak.
