Guest guest
(from Dui Yao) (Incidentally, Sionneau, like Bensky/Gamble, also refers to Cinnamomum cassia as this plant - i.e. " cassia, " not true cinnamon.) " Real Rou Gui is an expensive medicinal. For reasons unknow to the author, many importers of Chinese medicinal substances sell the culinary quality of cinnamon, Gui Pi. Although this spice is delicious, it has little medicinal value. Its dietary action focuses on the middle burner. In no case does Gui Pi reinforce kidney yang or life gate fire. Guan Gui is the fine bark of the tree that has lived six to seven years. Guan Gui has less oil and its nature is drying. Consequently, it is weaker than Rou Gui for supplementing the original qi but is better for warming the middle and drying dampness. Rou Gui is for the lower burner and kidneys. Guan Gui is for the middle burner and spleen. Rou Gui Xin (the heart of Rou Gui), also called Gui Xin, is cinnamon bark which has been cleaned of its fine superficial layer (which is brown and which sometimes looks like cork). Rou Gui Xin is believed to be superior for reinforcing heart yang and for re-establishing the interaction between the heart and kidneys. Rou Gui Mo or Rou Gui Mian, powdered Rou Gui, has the advantage as being just as powerful as the whole bark and may be used at a dose of 1-2g/day. This reduces the cost of the treatment since Rou Gui is relatively expensive. This powder can be added five minutes before the end of the decoction or can even be mixed to the decocted liquid just before drinking it. " ============================== Peter L. I know they have a vietnamese variety that is very expensive and a chinese one that is very cheap. Anyone have their species list handy?
