Guest guest
Okay, Let's say you had some Zhu Sha Cinnabar. Just hypothetically speaking. The Bensky text talks about using .3 to 2.7 grams and refining it with water. Does anybody have a handle on what it means to refine the Zhu Sha with water? And how much would I use in this hypothetical make-believe world of mine for a week's worth of capsules. Is that .3 to 2.7 grams per raw herb package/day decocted or sprinkled on something else or what? I use approximately 40 grams of extract powders when I make up 100 capsules for my patients. The dosage of the capsules is usually 15 per day. So the 100 last about a week. I'm trying to determine how much Zhu Sha I would add to 100 capsules if I were practicing in an area in which this would be legal and so forth. -- Al Stone L.Ac. <AlStone http://www.BeyondWellBeing.com Pain is inevitable, suffering is optional. Guest guest
Al: One traditional way of processing cinnabar is to drop it into a stream running eastward. The cinnabar that floats along with the water can be collected and used. You can repeat the process up to 9 times (some sort of Taoist thing). But, I'm not sure that's the process Bensky is refering to. Usually pills are rolled with honey as the binder, and then coated with the cinnabar. Interestingly, some Indian alchemical sects have a secret way of processing mercury into ingots or amulets that do not have any trace of mercury fumes. Zhu sha should never be heated - it becomes toxic. Incidentally, I have a manic patient who could really use Zhu Sha An Shen Wan, but I can't prescribe it, and Hu po substituted for Zhu sha just doesn't do the job. I've used Zhu sha successfully on (my own) canker sores and I haven't gone crazy. Yet. I guess that a subjective judgement. ============================== Peter L.
