Guest guest
I normally decoct in a covered pan or a pressure cooker which I don't vent. However I wondered whether it would be better to cook fu zi or other toxic herbs normally decocted longer times in an uncovered vessel. Is the toxicity reduced because the heat denatures the alkaloids or because irritating volatiles are lost?
