Guest guest
Z'ev You ask why is modern science considered normal science? I noted in my post that I was quoting Kuhn, who defines normal science as the prevailing mode of inquiry in a given society (Structure of Scientific Revolutions). It does not mean other forms of knowing are abnormal, as in deviant, just that they do not represent status quo forms of inquiry. Modern science is the prevailing form of inquiry in all nations on this planet, including China. The model of certainly discloses data that is not available via the prevailing model of modern science, but the reverse is also true. However, arguably, the paradigm of TCM (which uses modern science as part of its method of understanding) has replaced older purer forms of CM even in China herself. That is because the challenge of western science made the previous paradigm no longer tenable in its older form. Since there is no going backwards, the only possibility for CM to impact the future development of medicine in the west is to begin by pushing the envelope of understanding within the prevailing mode of inquiry. We cannot control paradigm shifts. We can only provide data that challenges the old and then see what happens. -- Chinese Herbal Medicine FAX:
