Guest guest
Greetings group I have a patient at the moment who is menopausal and seeks treatment for heat , distress etc. Treatment is going fine but she mentioned an interesting thing to me on the first visit. She said that if she ever eats walnuts or peanuts ( she like to eat them at night while watching TV) her symptoms of heat , and insomnia and chest " blockage " as she describes get much worse. This makes sense to me regards the hu tao rou ( walnut) as its a yang supplementing medicinal which aggravates her yin xu pattern. I don't know anything about peanuts ...........I must conclude its properties are similar to walnut .........hot /warm and benefits the yang. Anyone know of peanut properties according to TCM? Guest guest
Hey Heiko, Don't know about peanuts from a TCM perspective, but I know that the naturopathic college down the street from our OM college taught their students that peanuts were VERY HOT. For hyperkinetic kids, they always taught parents to keep the kids off of peanuts, 'cause it could exacerbate the hyperkinesis. They suggested stuff like almond butter instead of peanut butter for children, particularly since, as one of my masters always said " we say the child is pure yang. Lu: Peanut (Used for...) Dry cough, upset stomach, beriberi, shortage of milk secretion after childbirth. Description: Neutral; sweet; lubricates the lungs; considered good for stomachache; affects the spleen and lungs. The outer layers of peanuts should not be removed if possible when peanuts are used in a Chinese remedy, unless otherwise specified. Eatling large quantities of peanuts is considered harmful to the digestive functions and to the skin. Peanut oil is neutral and sweet, and is used to lubricate the intestines. Use a cotton ball to apply peanut oil to the scrotum region to relieve itching and wet sensations, 5 to 6 times a day, without washing with hot water. -- Al Stone L.Ac. <AlStone http://www.BeyondWellBeing.com Pain is inevitable, suffering is optional.
