Guest guest
according to Manaka, when using strong stimuli, both the x-signal system (channels) AND the neuroendocrine systems are affected, with neuroendocrine dominating. when subtle stimuli are used, only the x-signal system is activated. He mentions homeopathy as an example of this. the question is whether the use of material herbs even at low doses can be anything other than pharmacologically mediated. What else is it in the herbs that leads to any effect. well, manaka would say it is subtle signals and information other than biochemical. This may explain the alleged great success of the eclectics who used very low dose tinctures. However, it is worth noting that the eclectics only believed these affects could be achieved in liquid preparation, not pills or solid extracts. that the liquid medium conveyed the information necessary. the original homeopaths always used liquid, but the homeopathic industry has favored pills. Thus, I have always been disappointed with chinese patents, but have had some good results with certain liquid extracts lately. (by the way, this current fascination with subtle stimuli is due to some remarkable successes I have been witnessing lately using 8 extra channels and nothing else for some of the biggest pests in my practice -- fibromyalgia and tinnitus). As Mark mentioned, great results from kanpo usually manifest over time, so it may be constant reinforcement of subtle stimuli that does the trick. On the other hand, my acupuncture results have been accomplished in single treatments after weeks of frustration with TCM. and, of course, these have been functional, not organic problems. arguably, functional problems may respond better to subtle changes in x-signals than problems where there has been pronounced change in structure and neuroendocrine secretions. I have certainly noticed for years that certain patients only respond to subtle stimuli. My solution up until recently has been to refer these patients to someone less heavy handed. However, I have had to come to terms that I am such a patient myself. anyway, if this x-signal stuff is valid, it is wrong to say that small doses affect psyche more than soma, as Kapchuk suggests, because this reinforces a cartesian mindbody split that is not part of CM. If the x-signal system can be impacted by low dose herbs, than it must affect psyche and soma both. However, I am not yet convinced that this is true and I anxiously await your stories of success with this method. -- Chinese Herbs VOICE: (858) 946-0070 FAX: (858) 946 0067
